Mezapos

Mezapos settlement was constructed around Mezapos cove at Tigani Peninsula, south of Areopoli, on a rocky location next to the sea between two streams. According to Linguist Dikaios Vagiakakos the name Mezapos comes from the word apa (meaning water) of Indo-european origin and the adjective messos of the aeolic dialect.

The English military man, topographer and archaeologist William Martin Leake visited the settlement around 1805, and mentioned that the port of Mezapos was considered the safest in the west coast of Mani. During the 19th century, the families of Nicliani and other relative or allied factions settled in the wider area of Mezapos.
